Position Summary: Chapman Engineering, base location in the San Antonio area, has immediate opening for a part-time IT support specialist with a minimum of 3 years of IT support related experience. This is a part-time position supporting 3 locations. This position is responsible for installation and support of software and hardware, end user training, and network troubleshooting. Relies on experience and judgment as well as pre-established procedure and instructions to support information assurance, and risk management activities.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Upgrade hardware and software as needed.

  •  Maintains computer hardware and software license inventory.

  • Maintain servers, email system, and backups.

  • Research and purchase new hardware and software.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues (on-site and remote) related to technical difficulties with hardware, software, and the network.

  • Perform remote configuration of PCs, wireless mobile devices, printers, and networks.

  • Co-ordinate with other offices and third parties when appropriate.

  • Act as product expert for end user applications/systems.

  • Interface with infrastructure, database, development, and third party personnel.

  • Actively document and contribute to ongoing process improvement.

  • Ability to complete multiple simultaneous projects in a timely manner.

  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

  • Work with the GIS group.


  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.

  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service to internal customr.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft applications including Office Business Premium applications, and SharePoint (knowledge of GIS products a plus).

  • Must have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems, Active Directory, backup strategies, and file permissions.

  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.


  • Associate degree or equivalent in computer related field.  

  • Working knowledge of troubleshooting and providing help desk support.

  • Understanding of software installation techniques.

  • Client hardware knowledge and diagnostic skills.

  • Knowledge of MS Windows operating systems, MS Office Suite, and MS Exchange technology.

  • Knowledge of DNS, DHCP and strong TCP/IP skills including WAN/LAN connectivity skills
